Trooper Limited (we, our, us) is a New Zealand company. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs). This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, where it is stored, and the rights you have.

What is personal information?

In this policy, “personal information” means information about an identifiable individual — for example your name, email address, or any information from which you are reasonably identifiable.

What we collect

We collect different information depending on how you use Trooper:

  • If you request a property report — your name, email address, the property address you ask us to look up, and any details you provide in the contact form.
  • If you use Trooper as a developer or team — your account name and email, your organisation and team membership, the searches you save, and the listings you forward to us for ingestion.
  • Technical data — essential session cookies to keep you signed in, your IP address, and basic browser and device information. We also collect error and diagnostic data to keep the service working.

We may also collect information that does not identify you — for example aggregated, anonymised data about how the service is used.

Why we collect it

  • to deliver and improve your reports and the deal feed;
  • to send transactional email (account, report-ready notices) and saved-search matches you have asked for;
  • to send occasional product updates — you can opt out or unsubscribe at any time;
  • to keep the service secure and prevent abuse;
  • to meet our tax and accounting obligations in New Zealand.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted providers to run the service:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosting, our database, file storage, and transactional email (sent via Amazon SES). Hosted in the Sydney region.
  • Stripe — to process subscription payments.
  • Sentry — to capture error and performance diagnostics so we can fix problems.

We read public property data from sources such as Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and local council district plans. These are sources we read from — we do not send your personal information to them.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

Where your data is stored and how long

Your data is hosted in Australia (AWS Sydney region, ap-southeast-2). Some providers process limited data overseas — Stripe (payments) and Sentry (error diagnostics) may process data in the United States. We retain account and report data while your account is active. Financial records (invoices, payment confirmations) are kept for at least seven years to meet New Zealand tax obligations. You can ask us to delete other personal information at any time.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct it if it is wrong;
  • ask us to delete it (subject to our financial-record obligations);
  • complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you are not satisfied with how we have handled a request — privacy.org.nz.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at developments@trooper.co.nz.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies — to keep you signed in and to remember preferences. We do not use advertising trackers or build cross-site profiles.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information. However, no transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, so any information you send us online is transmitted at your own risk.

Links to other sites

Our service may link to websites operated by others. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party sites — please review their own privacy policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will notify you by email and ask you to re-accept it the next time you sign in. The current version is always posted here.
